Q - How much does it cost to have a electric Vehicle Charge Point installed?
A- There are many elements that make up the price of an EV install which include the existing supply and layout of your property. Charge point manufacturers are seeing an increased demand which is good for consumers as costs reduce and options become wider. A number of suppliers provide a cost for a standard install, which may or may not apply to your property.
Q - What would you class as a standard EV Charge Point installation?
A - NMEV like to tailor our offerings to meet or customers needs, however most installation companies would prefer to route the cable from a consumer unit or new unit if required, out through a hole in an exterior wall, route the cable at a low level around the building clipped to the exterior wall to the charger. This is the ideal / preferred installation and can be seen as the standard / typical installation.
Some installation companies provide specific breakdowns of their "Standard Installation" and charge extra for variations, however they don't reduce their cost if the installation is simpler than a "Standard Installation". NMEV think it's fairer to charge the customer for the installation they want / need.
Q - I'm a landlord and have been given a wide range of prices for an EICR, surely I'm getting the same service?
A - At NMEV we price for the testing required to produce a quality EICR which would take around 4 hours for a 3 bed semi-detached house, we can rectify dangerous situations / observations and provide guidance on remedial works. However we see that as separate to the EICR process. Some providers may quote a low figure for the test and make a profit by resolving observations and remedial works or reducing the testing frequency to 1, 2 or 3 years. That's why NMEV provide guidance to customers to enable them to risk asses their electrical system, rather than simply providing a report. As landlords ourselves we know that is what we would want and expect from our suppliers.
